Crownjun is a brand known for producing the smallest surgical suture needle (supermicrosurgery instruments) in the world. These needles are produced and manufactured by Kono Seisakusho Co, based in Ichikawa, Japan.
The revolutionary medical advancement has made it possible to suture tiny tissues and blood vessels, and to perform operations such as the reattachment of an infant’s severed finger or the transplantation of a thin skin layer without excision of the muscle underneath.
The surgical needles are just 0.8 mm long and have a diameter of only 0.03 millimetres (about a thousandth of an inch). The thread used is so fine (with a diameter of 0.012 mm) that it is invisible to the naked eye.
Multiple types of medical procedures have been revolutionised after the commercial production of 0.03 mm needles, including transplant operations and regenerative surgery.
Surgeons are now able to achieve a level of precision that was previously considered impossible, suturing blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves, and other tissues to less than 0.5 mm in thickness, which reduced the physical stress on patients’ body and contributed to a better-quality postoperative life.
